Then you could use the drive on both computers with no need for a separate driver to read/write. Rebuild the package using ABS to enable FUSE support. Note: The ntfs-3g package does not have internal FUSE support. Code: ls -l one-of-the-files-in-thefile-system. Thus you could compare both cases by comparing the permissions as shown using e.g. So, nothing else will work with that entry in the web interface. And if you change the filesystem type from ntfs to ntfs-3g in the mntent section of /etc/openmediavault/config.xml, it might generate the right fstab entry but there is no backend for ntfs-3g. They are faked from the options used during the mount. You can't edit fstab in the openmediavault generated section. The permission you see on files on NTFS filesystems are faked. The user option in the fstab is still required. Re: Help, for full access mount ntfs-3g in /etc/fstab. Or, if you're sharing the drive between your Mac and a Windows 7 computer, you could reformat the drive as ExFAT. By default, ntfs-3g requires root rights to mount the filesystem if it is a block device, even with the user option in /etc/fstab. And then only because I've used the free version they fund and had no issues with it, so I would imagine their paid version would work just as well. I have no experience with either, so my recommendation would be the pricier Tuxera software. So if it's yes, then you'll have no choice but to purchase one of the commercial items. I have edited my /etc/fstab: Example: Windows Partition - targetted for /media/win7 UUIDUUIDOFPARTITION /media/win7 ntfs-3g defaults,localeenUS.utf8,windowsnames,umask7000,uid1000,gid1000,user 0 0 first solution: UUID82B86F5AB86F4C2B /Windows ntfs-3g defaults,localenUS.utf8,windowsnames,umask7000,uid1000,gid1000,user 0 0. No means you're currently running the 32 bit kernel. Using the examples in: NTFS data partition can't be accessed by another user unless unmounted in my current user session before logging out. On the right, check the "64-bit Kernel and Extensions" state. In the left column of the System Profiler, click on the Software heading. That would require you to purchase one of the commercial products. ![]() Depending on how new your MacBook Pro is, it may only boot 64 bit. The only catch is that it only works with a 32 bit boot kernel. I did try the free NTFS-3G drivers in Leopard at one time. Tuxera's version eliminates the need for the separate MacFUSE installation, and is faster at accessing NTFS drives. This version supports both 32 and 64 bit boot kernels. Tuxera, which provides the funding for the free NTFS-3G has their own paid version. A separate component needed for the free NTFS-3G software. NTFS-3G is the free version, which only works with the 32 bit boot kernel. There are two versions of the open source NTFS-3G software for OS X. There are two commercial choices, and one freebie. If you value your data, get NTFS drivers that ![]() I should also mention that at both the MacRumors forum (mentioned) and the Apple forums there has been considerable reporting that doing this leads to system instability and possible loss of data. Could mounting it in fstab and then booting into it cause these problems somehow? Anyway, it is no longer in my fstab but here is the output as you asked incase there is anything noteworthy to see. You can also make NTFS to be mounted during boot by putting the below line at the END () of the /etc/fstab file: /dev/sda1 /mnt/windows ntfs-3g defaults 0 0 TESTING WITHOUT INSTALLING Newer versions of ntfs-3g can be tested without installing anything and without disturbing an existing installation. I wonder if it could have had something to do with me mounting my Windows 11 drive in fstab as this problem only happened after booting into Windows 11 like an hour ago to help my sister. Panicked and didn't think that would help but i ended up restoring one form a few days ago so not sure why my system broke considering I used my laptop yesterday. Seems I fixed it through restoring a snapshot.
